Florentina Martinez, 100 years old of Truchas passed away on Sunday December 18th. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and was a lifelong resident of Truchas. She was born to Juan and Pablita Martinez on November 7, 1905 in Chimayo, and was raised by her adoptive parents Esquipula and Josefina Trujillo. She was preceded in death by them, and also her husband Canuto Martinez in 1981 and daughter, Viola Sanchez in 1962. She is survived by her son Sixto Martinez and wife Shirley of Salt Lake City, UT., daughter Elizaida Sandoval of Grants, daughter Adelina Sandoval and husband Serapio of Red Cliff, CO., daughter Evan Vigil of Albuquerque, son Elizandro Martinez and wife Holly of Elko, NV., daughter Nellie Martinez and husband Orlando of Albuquerque, grandson Gilbert R. Sandoval and wife Kathy of Alcalde, half brother Ernesto Martinez and wife Adelita of Chimayo, special nephew and neighbor Leroy Vigil and wife Flora of Truchas, special friend Fidencia Cordova of Truchas, 31 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and 41 great-great grandchildren as well as other relatives. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Block-Salazar Mortuary, a second rosary and the funeral mass are being planned in Truchas and have not been confirmed yet. Interment will take place in the Llanitos Cemetery in Truchas. The public is urged to contact the mortuary office for updated arrangements.
