Francisco A. “Frank” Chavez, 71, was called to his heavenly home by his Lord Jesus on Saturday, July 23, 2022 after a lengthy illness. Frank was born in Cerro, New Mexico, to Juan de los Reyes Chavez and Delfinia Archuleta Chavez on September 24, 1950. Frank attended schools in Cerro, graduating from Questa High School. Frank furthered his education at the University of New Mexico. He retired from the State of New Mexico’s Taxation and Revenue Department. He also managed Furr’s Cafeteria and Souper Salad for several years. Upon his retirement, he and Manuela moved to Terrazas, Mexico, to enjoy their golden years together until he was inflicted by an illness that took him from her.Frank was preceded in death by his parents. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Manuela, children Angela Chavez (Matthew), Marcus Chavez, José Luís Jujan, and Victor Lujan; grandchildren Kalib Brock and Mateo Chavez, Francisco Chavez, Celeste Lujan, Dylan Tarango, Angel Lujan, and Victor Lujan, Jr. Frank also leaves his six siblings: Ernest Chavez of Belen, Gloria Visarraga of Santa Fe, Joe D. Chavez (Socorro) of Santa Fe, Rebecca Chavez of Las Cruces, Elijio Chavez of Cerro, and José A. Chavez (Donna) San Ildefonso. Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends also mourn his passing.
Pallbearers for Frank are Kalib Brock, Nicholas Delovato, José Luís Lujan, Victor Lujan, Andrés Baca, and Tommy Baca.
A viewing for Francisco “Frank” Chavez will be Thursday, July 28, beginning at 5:00PM at Rivera Family Funerals and Cremations (417 Rodeo Road). Rosary will begin at 7:00PM at the funeral home that evening. Fr. Daniel M. Balizan will celebrate the Mass of Resurrection at 2:00PM on Friday, July 29, at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community. A reception at the Santa Maria de la Paz Social Center will immediately follow the Mass.
