FRANCIS HOWARD EDWARDS
WE ARE GREATLY SADDENED TO ANNOUNCE THE PASSING OF HOWARD EDWARDS, LONGTIME RESIDENT OF SANTA FE. HE MADE HIS TRANSITION AT SUNRISE ON MARCH 31, 2013.
BORN IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, TOWN OF POWDERLY, ALABAMA ON SEPTEMBER 4, 1925, HE WAS THE YOUNGEST CHILD OF MOSE GLENN EDWARDS AND NANNIE GRIFFE RAY. ORPHANED AS A YOUNG BOY, HOWARD MOVED WEST TO BE CARED FOR BY HIS OLDER SISTER. HE ATTENDED EL PASO, TEXAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND THEN GRADUATED FROM HURLEY, NEW MEXICO HIGH SCHOOL IN 1943. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, HOWARD JOINED THE U.S. MARINES. UPON HIS RETURN STATESIDE, HOWARD HELD THE POSITION OF CAPTAIN OF THE SILVER CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THEN MOVED TO SANTA FE TO WORK FOR MOUNTAIN BELL, RETIRING IN 1983.
ON JANUARY 18, 1952, HE MARRIED MARGORIE DELL MOORE. TOGETHER, HOWARD AND MARGIE MADE SANTA FE THEIR HOME AND HAD THREE CHILDREN; SHERRI, SCOTT AND JEFF.
HOWARD IS A MASTER MASON AND MEMBER OF MONTEZUMA LODGE NO. 1. HE IS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE CENTURY LINK PIONEERS. HOWARD WAS EMPLOYED BY EMPIRE BUILDERS SUPPLY CO. AND GARDENSWARTZ SPORTS FOR MANY YEARS.
AN AVID OUTDOORSMAN HE WAS. HOWARD LOVED THE MOUNTAINS AND WILDLIFE OF NORTHERN NEW MEXICO AND SOUTHERN COLORADO.
HOWARD ETCHED AN INDELIBLE MARK UPON THE LIVES OF HIS MANY FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS AND FAMILY. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDERN; JAIME, JOLENE AND JEROD, MANY IN-LAWS, NEICES/NEPHEWS AND THEIR CHILDREN. HIS GIFT TO LIFE WAS TO MAKE YOUR LOAD LIGHTER.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT THE SCOTTISH RITE TEMPLE IN SANTA FE ON THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2013 AT 6:00PM. GUESTS MAY BEGIN ARRIVING AT 5:30 PM.
