Frank M. Mares passed away on July 11, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. His last moments were spent with his oldest son Francisco who comforted him and reassured him that we would be ok.
Frank served 19 years with the Army National Guard where he got to travel to foreign countries such as Korea and served many posts throughout the United States. He was a proud Army Veteran and he wore his hat and rank pin gratifiedly. He met and married the love of his life Thelma Mares on August 18, 1973. They were happily married for 37 years until her passing. Frank’s greatest blessings were his three grandchildren who he adored so much. He was so proud of them and loved being their grandpa. He would send them daily text messages telling them good morning and he loved them. He spent his days, driving them anywhere they needed to go taking them fresh cooked lunch or a treat from town. Frank’s last birthday was spent surrounded by his grandchildren singing him happy birthday. He was an extremely wonderful grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Mares, parents, Frank and Julia Mares, mother in law, Odila Medina, brothers in law, Danny and Moises Medina, niece, Patricia Medina and Godson, Ruben Gonzales. He is survived by sons, Francisco D. Mares, (Mario Martinez) and Jaime D. Mares (Vanessa) and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Daniel, Danika and Dustin Mares. He is also survived by his brother, David Mares, sisters Patsy Padilla (Leo), Rose Mares, Cecilia Martinez, Betty Mares and Lorraine Martinez (Donald), father in law Tony Medina, sisters in law, Berlinda Montoya (Joe), Melba Trujillo (Bobby), Charlene Austin (Dean), Doreen Martinez (Joaquin) and Brenda Medina, brothers in law. Anthony Medina (Virginia) and Flavio Medina, God children, Felicia Cardenas (Richard) and Julian Vigil and many nephews, nieces, extended family and close friends.
The family would like to thank the staff and Remi Medina at Presbyterian Hospital for their excellent care.
