Walter “Frank” Phelps
1955 - December 24, 2020
Walter Frank Phelps, Army Veteran, age 65, died peacefully and courageously as he lived, at home in Youngsville, NM, on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020, with his wife Katherine (Westfield) Phelps by his side, after a long battle with liver cancer. He had bravely confronted and fought cancer and was her “Superman”.
Frank, as everyone called him, was born in Tucson, AZ, to Marylou (Demers) Bresky and the late Walter Howard Phelps. He is survived by his wife, Katherine of 30 years, mother Marylou Bresky and daughter Carol (Phelps) Merriman and son Tyler Phelps, three brothers and two grandchildren, Wyatt and Piper, and many friends.
Frank and Katherine were married on May 19, 1990, White Cliffs, Plymouth Massachusetts and lived in Plympton, Massachusetts from 1990 to 2014 where he owned a construction company “Wally Will Construction, If you can’t Wally Will”, then he retired and moved to Punta Gorda, Florida. In 2017, he sold his brick and mortar home only miles from Charlotte Harbor, Florida and went on the road in an RV traveling around the county for the next three years. In April 2020, he purchased a Flex Home from Shelter Dynamics, Inc., only the second of its kind, to be put on his land in Northern New Mexico. He insured his wife Katherine, would have a permanent home before he passed.
Frank was a man of many talents, known for his infectious smile, his playful character and for being a loving and supportive partner and husband. His hobbies included making pine needle baskets and he was often found building or fixing things.
He will be cremated, no services will be held at this time due to COVID-19. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Del Corazon Hospice 811 St. Michael’s Drive, Ste. 207 Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505 who has compassionately cared for him in his last months.
