Fred Mares

It is with great sadness that the family of Fred Mares announces his passing on May 28, 2021 following a brief illness. Fred Amador Mares was born to Felix and Lucy Mares on November 29, 1932 in Clayton, New Mexico. He was raised in Santa Fe, NM and resided there for the majority of his life with the exception of his final years that he lived in Rio Rancho, NM. Fred worked for the State of New Mexico for 30 years and also worked for The Santa Fe New Mexican after his retirement from the State. Fred was also self- employed doing advertising specialties for businesses and organizations also after his career with the State. Fred was a member of the Elks for many years. Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Lucy Mares, two brothers, Gilbert and Louis, two sisters, Bunky and Lina, and two grandsons, Matthew and Gabriel Mares, and son-in-law Jose 'Butch' Archuleta. He is survived by daughters Yolanda Archuleta,Diane Wolfzahn (husband Ralph), and Jeanette Mares-Jones (husband Sean), and son, Phillip Mares. He is also survived by six grandsons, one granddaughter, and 10 great- grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 10, 2021 @ 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe with the funeral mass to follow at 11:00 am and burial to follow at Santa Fe Memorial Gardens located at 417 E Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, NM.
