Frederick Carl Sleizer (68 years old) passed away peacefully in his home located outside of Chamisal, NM on Friday, April 8th, 2022. Fred was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 22, 1953 to Frederick Carl Sleizer (Sr) and Anne Handzus. Fred was the youngest of five siblings that include Joan (deceased), Joyce, Gretchen, and Julie (deceased). Fred never married, and had no children.
Fred will be remembered as an incredibly bright and caring uncle, brother, son, and friend that lived a full life. Fred was a powerful spirit with a rich sense of humor that valued individuality, freedom, loyalty and commitment. He also loved good conversation, a cigarette, and drink.
After growing up in Minneapolis, finishing high school at Southwest High School in 1971 and some college (at UMN and Macalester College), Fred went to work for the City of Minneapolis as a construction laborer. Fred eventually purchased a home in Bloomington, MN. Fred spent stints of free time traveling the country far and wide (with adventures in Australia, Jamaica, Czechoslovakia) and eventually landed in New Mexico (around the age of 40 or so) where he decided to plant his roots. There, he reconnected with close friends and acquaintances from his early years, and befriended many in the local community. Fred will be dearly and deeply missed.
Funeral services are currently being planned (date TBD) in Bloomington, MN at Dawn Valley Cemetery. Donations in Fred's memory may be made to the Stray Hearts Animal Shelter in Taos, NM at: https://www.strayhearts.org/donate. One of Fred's memorabe, shorter poems is provided below:
The love that comes but once or twice and has to be protected is hardly love at all but merely ourselves reflected. The strongest love I've come to believe, the one that never strays, is the hand turning the pages in our book of days.
