Fred Seeds

d. November 7, 2020

SEEDS, FRED (Frederick) D., age 94, passed away at his home in Fairview on November 7, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David C. Garcia.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Ann Seeds, children Robert Seeds (Laura), Rita Seeds-Garcia, Freddie Seeds, Barbara Bachechi (Mark), Kathy VanderVossen (Anthony); ten grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren, several loving nieces, nephews and his special in-laws, Steve and Angie Archuleta.

Fred was born in February 1926 to Frederick and Dorothy Seeds in Trenton, NJ. He served in the Marine Corp during WWII as a Rifle Marksman during the Asiatic Pacific Theater in Guam, Saipan and Bougainville. He loved southwest history and soon after his honorable discharge from the Marine Corp he headed to New Mexico and discovered, as he would say, the beautiful cultures, people and food of the Espanola Valley and surrounding area. He knew he had found his home. His favorite food was Carne Adovada. Fred and his wife Mary Ann began their own business, Holmes Auto Body and Towing, in 1954 where he worked to support his growing family until his retirement in 1994. He served as an Espanola City Police Officer and was a member of the City Council. During his career in the Espanola Valley, he made many friends whom he loved to chat with. Fred was passionate about baseball and played as a catcher with Santa Clara Pueblo and Alcalde. He was an avid reader of southwest history, loved country music, hunted with his sons, camped and fished with his family, and in his later years he enjoyed sitting on his porch with his wife eating a good meal and watching a variety of birds. The family will always remember how much Fred adored watching the NFL. He rooted for several teams. Fred had the best sense of humor and a welcoming smile. He loved people, was kind and giving, and always asked “how are you doing’. He will be missed beyond measure.

Fred's family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Rivera Family Funeral Home of Espanola. Please leave messages for the family, stories, and pictures at www.riverafamilyfuneralhome.com. The family will hold a private family service at a later date where Fred will be interred at the Santa Fe Memorial Gardens next to his beloved son-in-law, David.
