Gabriel (Gabe) Romero

Age 89 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 23, 2024. Gabe was born April 13, 1935, in Cleveland, New Mexico to Donilio and Ermelina Romero who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Angie Quintana Romero; they were blessed with three children: Richard “Rick” (Bernadette), Randy (deceased) and Robyn Romero Cardenas & husband Vernon. He is survived by beloved grandchildren: Manuel Cardenas, Angelica Cardenas & Alexandra Archuleta, also survived by brother, Juan Cruz Romero, Littleton, Colorado, brothers-in-law, Roy Quintana, Deacon Jerry Quintana & wife Florence, Clyde Quintana, David Quintana and Dale Quintana; sisters-in-law, Patricia Ortiz & husband Gilbert and Marilyn Sanchez and numerous nieces, nephews and over 20 godchildren. Preceded in death by sisters Simmie Romero Riggs and Katie Romero.

Gabe proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. He then worked for Convair Aircraft in San Diego, California before returning to his beloved New Mexico.

Gabe, as he was lovingly known, was a proprietor of the Plaza Cocktail Lounge (1967-1982) then worked for his “compa” Jim Maryol of Tia Sophia Restaurant (1984-2018).

He is a life-member of Elks (BPOE #460), Eagles (FOE #2811), VFW, Union Protectiva #2951, and Los Unidos.

A rosary will be recited on May 17, 2024, at 10:00 am, followed by an 11:00 am funeral mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (Osage Avenue). Santa Fe, NM. Private Family Burial will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Gabe’s family kindly requests donations to Scott’s House, Community Hospice and Respite House—a sanctuary of solace, comfort, and compassionate care. This hidden gem is located at 287 Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505, (505) 984-1133.
