Gavino B. Martinez

Gavino B. Martinez, beloved father, brother, uncle and grandfather of Espanola, NM went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 8, 2014. He was born in March of 1943 in Canjilon, NM. Gavino Martinez was very well known for his dedication to his work ethics as a Uranium Miner in Grants, NM and with Home Steak Mining, and also with Gilman Mining Company in Gilman, CO. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to travel, cook and enjoyed the company of his only brother and best friend Melisendro Martinez of Canjilon, NM. He was preceded in death by his father; Abenicio Martinez, Mother; Gertrudes Martinez, son; Gabe Martinez and daughter Sharon Martinez, sister; Maria Emma King, the mother of his children, the belated Lillie M. Martinez from Canjilon, NM. Gavino B. Martinez is survived by his companion Genevieve Montano of Albuquerque, NM. His children; Gail Martinez of Espanola, NM, and companion Harold Bustos of Hernandez, NM, Alex Martinez of Alcalde, NM and Companion Michelle Sanchez of Penasco, NM, DeeDee Martinez of Espanola, NM, Teresa M. Martinez, mother of his daughter, Cassandra Martinez and husband Matthew Martinez of Chimayo, NM. A special grandson he raised like his own Jerome Gonzales of Espanola, NM. A very close nephew Melvin Martinez of Bernalillo, NM and his companion Cindy Leyba, as well as Keith Uyeda of Texas, Raul Mier of Grand Junction, CO., several grandchildren; Gavin and Cesar Vargas Jr., Alex Martinez Jr., Jeremy Lopez, Aaliyah Armijo, Andres Valdez-Martinez, Armani Martinez all of Espanola, NM, his sister Vicky Mier of Borger, TX, brother; Melisendro and wife Eleanor Martinez of Canjilon, NM., Desi Martinez of Tierra Amarilla, NM. A public visitation took place on Thursday, December 11, 2014. A rosary was recited at Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. A funeral mass was held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at San Jose Catholic Church in Canjilon, NM. A reception followed after the funeral mass. Serving the family as pallbearers were: Matthew Martinez, Cesar Vargas Jr., Danny DeVargas, Vernon Martinez, Danny Montano, Andrew Chavez. Honorary pallbearers were: Melvin Martinez, Raul Mier, Keith Uyeda, Denne Ortiz, Pablo Montano, Amrbosio Martinez and Michael Sandoval. A private burial will take place at a later date.
