George Chavez 93, passed away at Taos Living Center on August 28, 2020. George was raised in Cerro, NM by Tobias and Ruffia Segura. George was known for his kindness and willingness to help his neighbors. As a young man, he would drop by and chop and stack wood or help in the fields irrigating or gathering hay bales. He was a talented musician and played the violin, mandolin, guitar, piano, organ, flute, bongos, and other instruments. George was a devoted Catholic. He was a member of the Nuestro Senior de Nazareth Morada in Cerro, NM. In his later years, George moved to Questa, NM where he lived until he transitioned to long term care at the Taos Living Center. In Questa, he made many friends. George would ride his three wheel bicycle to town and spend most of his day helping local businesses with throwing trash, sweeping, and running errands to the bank or post office. George’s greatest love was music. He traveled with Tommy Hancock and the Supernatural Family Band, and lived in Texas with them for several years before returning to Questa. While with the Hancock Family they recorded an album dedicated to George with his photo on the back cover. George was known to join in with many bands and musicians with his tambourine or maracas. George was larger than life and was loved by everyone in the communities of Cerro and Questa. He was a humble man that will not be forgotten by those that knew him.
