Gertrude Grace Varela

On February 3, 2022, our beloved mother Gertrude Grace Leyba (Tula) Varela was called to Heaven to be with our Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 96.  She was born in Leyba, NM, to Enriquez and Lucianita (Sena) Leyba.  Grace is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Antonio G. Varela and 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Her children are Johnny (Becky), Linda, Richard, and Jerry (Donna). Special grandchildren, Jamie (Brenda), Archie (Tanya), Ivan (Stephanie), Allen, Jennifer (Johnny), Jeremy (Tina) and Curtis (Mona), and six other grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Gertrude was brought up in a loving family and taught to work hard, along with her parents and siblings as a farmer and rancher. Her talents went beyond caring for her husband and children.  She also loved singing with her sisters and at family reunions.

Pallbearers: Jamie, Archie, Ivan, Allen Archuleta, Curtis and Jeremy Varela. Honorary Pallbearers: Jennifer, Michelle, Maria and Andres.

A viewing will take place on February 9, 2022, at Rivera Family Funeral Home, in Santa Fe, NM at 6:00pm, and on February 10th, a Rosary will be resided at St. Anthony Parish in Pecos, NM at 10:00am, followed by Mass at 11:00am. Christian burial will be held at the Pecos Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion in Pecos following the services.
