Gilbert Barela

Gilbert Barela, 77 passed away at home in Chimayo, NM on May 31, 2016. Gilbert loved to go camping, fishing and hunting with Peter, Jr. and Leroy “Chango”. He also loved attending horse races. He is preceded in death by his parents Filadelfido and Felipa Barela, his first wife and mother of his children Mary D. Barela, sons Dennis, Bobby Louie and Ricky Barela, step sons Halbert and Harold Martinez, step-daughter Vangie Martinez, granddaughter Mary Barela, grandsons Aramado and Lino Quintana. He is survived by his partner of forty years Dora Martinez, sons and daughters Felix Barela (Michelle), Lorenzo Barela, Teddy Barela (Clarissa), Isaac Barela, Christine Barela and Irene Quintana. He is also survived by his sister Nora Barela, step-son Harry Martinez, step-daughter Doris Pacheco, 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Rosary will be recited on Saturday, June 04, 2016 at 9 AM with a funeral mass to follow at 10 AM at Holy Family Church in Chimayo. Per Gilberts request private burial will be at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rivera Funeral Home in Espanola.
