Gilbert E. Vigil was born on November 11, 1941 and died on March 21, 2021.
He grew up on Canyon Road, graduated from St. Michael’s High School in 1961 and completed Barber School in 1962. He came from a family of “Horsemen” athletes and followed the footsteps of his father, Ramon Vigil, as a Master Barber, where he worked alongside his dad and eventually with his sons at The Center Barber Shop in Santa Fe, where it is proudly carried on by his son Jude and daughter Velma. He provided a service to generations of families and was well respected and loved by his customers. He was a master at his craft and an expert at flat tops.
He; endeared his ranch in Los Hueros, Ocate, New Mexico. He loved it there and had very happy memories of his youth, his family and the simpler things in life. He would fondly reminisce and remind us not to forget where we came from. He was a hard worker. He was a builder, a good listener, loyal and wise. He always had a kind word, a compliment, encouragement and his own personal philosophical advice. He will be truly missed.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Frank and Santiago Vigil, his brother Paul Vigil, and his parents Ramon and Aurora Vigil. He is survived by his wife, Helen Vigil, his children Velma Herrera (Steve), Jude Vigil (Jennifer) and their mother Rosalin Whittet and his son Gabriel Duncan.
