Gilbert J. Salazar 70; A resident of the Española Valley passed away Saturday morning in his home, with his loving family at his bedside. Gilbert was born in Oakland, California on September 18, 1943 and raised in Ranchitos.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Ramon E. Salazar and Alberta T. Salazar, and his grandparents Avelino and Guadalupe Talachy and Jose Ramon and Francisquita de Sales Salazar.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lora Salazar; his children Karla and husband Alfredo Fernández of Scottsdale, James (Jamo) Salazar and Sim Martinez of Española, Annamarie and husband Henry Ortiz and Alexis Martinez of Albuquerque; grandchildren Marisa and Cristina Fernandez, Geneva and husband Elias Sanchez Jr., Raquel Seize, Cassondra, Breanne and Trent McIntyre; brothers; Roy Salazar and wife Lauralee, Clyde Salazar and wife Lucy, Adolfo Salazar, Richard Salazar and wife Carol, and sisters; Teresa and husband LeRoy Martinez and Carmela Salazar; godchildren; Bernadette Martinez, Pamela Salazar-Lentini and Timothy Romero; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A public visitation took place on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola, NM. A rosary was recited on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, also at Sacred Heart Church. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church in Española. He was laid to rest at the Sacred Heart Cemetery immediately following the service
Serving as pallbearers are: Mariano Manzanares, Fred Quintana, Leroy Salazar, Andrew Talachy, Howard Lopez and Joseph Block. Honorary pallbearers are Marisa and Cristina Fernández, John Ramon Vigil, Geneva Sanchez, Raquel Seize, Cassondra, Breanne and Trent McIntyre, Annamarie and Henry Ortiz, Jacquelynn and Jenalle Paña, Maria, Elias and Nadine Sanchez and Alexis Martinez.
