Gilbert Silva

June 1, 1942 — July 14, 2016

Gilbert “Gibo” Silva Born June 1, 1942 in the heart of Santa Fe, took his final bow and exited the world stage surrounded by his entire family in the home he and his wife built for their family. It was peaceful, beautiful and was filled with love, prayer, song and tears. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Julia Silva. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Victoria, and their children; David (Sharla), Mark (Sandra), Michael (Marcy), Andrew (Karen), Adrienne (Jim), Nicole; their 21 Grandchildren; siblings, Annabelle, Pancho, Billy, Teresa; and sister-in-law Stella. Gibo was loved by all who knew him. His sense of humor and infectious laugh brought joy and laughter to all who encountered him. His faith, strong work ethic and dedication to his wife and family made him an amazing role model to his family and all who were blessed to have known him. He was a jack of all trades, he could fix anything that was broken, solve any problem that seemed impossible and he would dedicate as much time as it took to help somebody in need get where they needed to go. He was a man full of passion for life. He lived hard, loved hard and laughed hard. His wife, children and grandchildren were his greatest priority and he spent many years of his life working hard to provide the very best for his family, all the while instilling optimism for life in each one of his beloved children and grandchildren. He taught us to laugh every chance we got, to greet every obstacle with an open mind, and that our faith and music could make anything better. He played and recorded albums with several bands for over two decades. If he wasn’t telling a joke or laughing, he was singing, dancing or playing the guitar. Gibo filled our childhood with heartfelt love and encouraged us in our adulthood to approach life with a sense of humor, a smile and a song. We are forever grateful to have witnessed his wisdom, courage and strength and will strive to always put into practice all he taught us. We will love, we will laugh, we will work hard, we will smile, we will sing and we will pray, because that is what he taught us to do. Good bye for now Gibo, or as he would have said … “Bueno Eh!” A rosary will be recited Tuesday July 19, 2016 at 9:00am with a Mass to follow at 10:00am at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi with a burial at Rosairo Cemetery.
