Gilbert “Wheat” Trujillo, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2021 with his family by his side. Gilbert lived all his life in Cundiyo, NM. He was born and raised there by his mother and later built a home and lived there with his wife and children. He was a wonderful husband to his wife, Tillie for almost 60 years, was a loving father, and a caring grandfather and great-grandfather. He adored his animals, especially his dogs, Bobby and India. He loved the outdoors. He always had a vegetable garden in the summer, enjoyed fishing and camping and was an avid hunter in the winter. He was a mechanic, a builder, a farmer, a plumber, an electrician, just a master of all trades. There was nothing Gilbert could not do. He was highly intelligent with an engineer’s mind.
Gilbert worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory and retired after a lengthy career as a truck driver. Upon his retirement, he began working with Ortiz Transportation driving the Cundiyo route for the Pojoaque School systems. Gilbert was a hard worker and a dedicated employee, this was something he also expected and instilled in his children and grandchildren.
Gilbert will be welcomed in Heaven by his wife, Utelia “Tillie” Trujillo; parents: Eugenio & Sarita Trujillo; and sister: Sabinita Martinez.
He is survived by his loving daughters: Dolores Arreola (Gildardo), Della Trujillo (Brian), Joyce Sullivan (Patrick) and Donna Curry (Doug); sons: Don Trujillo (Olga) and Gilbert Trujillo Jr. (Beverly) and two granddaughters that he helped raise, Tanya Martinez (Steven) and Ariana Trujillo (Nate). Grandchildren: Rudy Trujillo, David Sullivan, Ryan Sullivan, Kelly Escobar, Sarah Curry, Nick Garcia, Anique Sandoval and Aaliyah Trujillo. Sister: Andreita Vigil. Gilbert was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.
A Catholic mass will be celebrated for Gilbert on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, NM.
