Our Beloved Mother/Grandmother, Gloria Maestas Rivera ” Glo” . Mrs. Rivera, a former resident of Santa Rosa N.M. and Santa Fe, left us to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2024 in her home , surronded by her family in Santa Fe following a brief illness.
Gloria was born in Colonias NM March 7, 1938 and was the youngest daughter of Maria (Baca) Maestas and Benito Maestas..
She was devoted to her family. She loved baking, photography, reading and writing short stories, as well as her love for New Mexico music, classical,and opera. She was an avid dancer and had the gift of humor. Glo was known for her home baked bread, pies and cakes. Always hospitable, and also for her great moral character, and work ethic .
She attended early school in Santa Rosa's downtown "Alamo" and graduated with the SRHS Class of 1956. She married Phil Cordova in Santa Rosa and worked at La Fiesta Cafe, and the Club Cafe (now Joseph's , she also lived in Albuquerque and worked at La Placita Restaurant as a waitress, and then in Santa Fe as an efficient and effective officer with the Santa Fe Police Department, and later retired as a home caretaker for Leonora Curtain Paloheimo, whose family had purchased and resided at historic El Rancho de las Golondrinas from Elfego Pino-Baca in 1932-33.
Gloria was preceded by her parents Maria and Benito Maestas, Husband Richard Rivera, son Micheal Sedillo, daughter Victoria Baxter , sisters Josie Delgado and Lala Chavez, brothers Benny, Horacio and Meliton Maestas, and a beloved daughter in law Pam Cordova. As well as many other cherished relatives and friends.
She was survived by her children Stella Alvey , Donald Cordova(Pam Cordova , Monica Chavez (Rudy ) Bernave(Guy) Sedillo, 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Rivera Funeral Home in Santa Fe.
