John Gurule, 55, died unexpectedly on August 01,2020 after a short illness.
John was born in Albuquerque, but lived his early years in Espanola with his Mom and Grandma Ortega on the West side.
At about the age of 13, he went to live with his Tia Nana and his Tio Joe Esquibel in Albuquerque, where he attended Monzano High School.
When John was 17, he got married and had a son, John Ray, who passed away in 2008.
For several years John worked in the roofing business with his Tio Joe. He moved back to Espanola in his mid-twenties and worked as a manager for several businesses and as a teller/csr at several banks.
John is preceded in death by his dad, Johnny Paul Gurule, brother Joseph, Grandma Maria Ortega, nephew Leo Gurule and long-time friend Carlos Archuleta.
John is survived by his mom, Maria C. Muller, sons, Esteban 8, Elija 13, and his partner/companion Kristian Mitzel of 25 years. He is also survived by three brothers; Norman Gurule and wife Lita, Anthony Hererra, wife Margaret and Ernest Hererra of Las Cruces. He has three sisters who also survive him; Carmen Hererra of Pecos, Texas, Brenda Duran, and Soryda, husband Antonia Pena. There are also many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
John will proudly be remembered for his generous spirit and loving heart. For years, anyone who needed a place to stay was welcome on the empty couch or spare bedroom. One day often led to weeks or even months of staying as a house guest. His gentle soul was taken from us way to early and now he rests in the peace of the Lord.
Please keep the Gurule family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
