The world lost one of the best men early thanksgiving morning. Harold B Saunders lived what many refer to a the American dream. Born 3/11/1933 to Russian Jewish immigrants in Brooklyn, NY who taught him loyalty, integrity, and a good work ethic. On his 18th birthday against his mother’s wishes he enlisted in the marines and was shortly sent to serve in the Korean War. He also had the honor of guarding President Dwight Eisenhower. After the marines he met the mother of his 3 children, Arlyne who at the time was beginning her career as an artist. They raised their family in New Jersey. Harold had a successful career at Revlon as a chemist and director of purchasing. Shortly after retiring in the 1990s, Harold did odd jobs here and there that always involved interacting with others. Shortly after 9/11/2001 Harold and Arlyne retired in Santa Fe. Arlyne passed away in 2007. For the last 12 years Harold thrived and enjoyed volunteering for the Lions, assistance dogs of the west, and spending time with friends and family. Harold was one of the most humble, genuine, kind hearted, and transparent individuals you could meet. Harold’s legacy and his story will live on through his family: Melisa, Andrew, Derek, Alexis and Zachary and their father Robert, Zachary’s wife Yao, and the apple of Harold’s eye Alexis’ son Eli. Harold will be having a military send off in the near future. Contributions can be made to assistance dogs of the west in Santa Fe.
