Henry Martinez, Sr.

Henry Martinez, Sr., age 75 of Chimayo, NM passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Henry was born in Gilman, Colorado to Marcos Martinez and Eufemia Lovato. When he was a young child, the Martinez family moved to Chimayo, NM. He married Loretta Martinez on March 3,1962. Henry is survived by his wife, Loretta, a son, Henry Martinez, Jr. (Marcia), daughters, Lynn Martinez, Pam Peperas (Anthony), Julie Serrano,and son Matthew Martinez (Janice). Also survived by his sister, Rosie Montoya (Leo). Also survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his brothers Mike Martinez (Teresina), Frank Martinez (Bennie), Marcos Martinez, and by his sister Mary Padilla. Henry retired from the Los Alamos County after 25 years of service. He also took after his father Marcos and was a skilled carpenter. Henry loved the outdoors and spent lots of time camping with his family. He loved hunting with his sons Henry Jr. and Matthew and was always going fishing with Matthew. He often went hunting with his daughter Pam and his son in law, Anthony. Henry was a talented musician and began singing at the early age of 5. He played with many musical groups throughout the years and in 1990 formed his final musical group with his two sons Henry Jr. and Matthew, Perfeccion de Chimayo. Henry loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Serving as Pallbearers are: Henry Martinez III, Paul Rodriguez, Anthony Peperas, Joey Garcia, Lucas Martinez and Matthew Martinez Jr. Services will take place this Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Chimayo, NM with a Rosary being prayed at 9:30 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Burial will take place at the Potrero Cemetery immediately after the Mass.
