Hevila Montoya age 92 a resident of Truchas, New Mexico passed away on October 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Chacon, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents: Raymundo & Lucinda Gonzales; husband: Elizardo Montoya; brothers: Malaquias, Tomas, Eli and Robert; sisters: Regina and Stella. She was also preceded in death by four brother in laws and four sister in laws. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Hevila is survived by her sons, Ray and wife Nila, Mike and wife Darlene, Benjamin and wife Angela, daughter Dionicia and husband Michael Ortega, eleven grandchildren: Andrew, Jenelle, Adam, Aaron, Robert, Robin Pacheco (Adam), Matthew (Ashley), Isaac (Jacqueline), Miguel Ortega (Tabitha) Elizardo and Franchesca Orteaga, five great grandchildren and one sister in law, Ruth Gonzales. She is also survived by nieces and nephews near and dear to her: Stella Carrington (Scott), Rudy Martinez (Donna), Olinda and Tomas Gonzalez, Concha Mondragon, Elefio Montoya Jr. (Gloria), Isaac, Helen Dominguez (Pete), Laura (Oliver), Amy, Frances, Betty, Joey, Orben Montoya and Joe Abeyta. Hevila graduated from Menaul School, then attended school in Minneapolis, Minnesota for lab and x-ray training. She worked at the Embudo Hospital, St Vincent Hospital and after her children were grown at The Truchas Clinic until her retirement in 1987. Some of Hevila’s hobbies included writing letters to her relatives and friends and to those who were sick, baking cookies at Christmas to give to relatives and neighbors and her prized preserves. No one made chokecherry jelly like her. Her joy in life was to make family and friends happy. Hevila always said “I feel happy when I make other people happy”. Hevila has been active in her church all her life. While living in Truchas she was an elder at Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church for a number of years. She also served as clerk, deacon and trustee. She was an active member of the woman’s society as long as she was able. Public visitation will be held on Sunday October 23 at 5:00 p.m. with a devotional service to be held at 6:00 p.m. at Rivera Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church in Truchas. Burial will follow at the San Miguel Cemetery in Truchas. Her grandsons serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren, Sean, Kirah, Kaylynn Brianna and Audrey. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church in Truchas. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Rivera Family Funeral Home of Espanola, NM.
