This totals to 174 people that were a part of his heart, and he theirs.  His is also survived by his brothers: Moses (Frances) and Seferino (Stephanie) Martinez; sisters-in-law Priscilla (Pat) and Carol Martinez; brother-in-law Lolo Salazar and an incredible number of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends - all whom he loved dearly and all special to his heart.

Higinio’s love for his family and friends was shown in his actions, his mementos and in his prayers.  He loved the Lord throughout his life and always strived to serve Him first and foremost.  He often preached to his kids and grandkids giving them words of wisdom to live by.  He recorded hundreds, if not thousands, of tapes with teachings, hymns and stories to be passed on to future generations.    Higinio also had a passion for music, playing just about every instrument he could put his hands on.  He played in a few bands throughout his life but his real joy came from playing and singing in church every Sunday and in the homes of his family and friends every chance he got.  He had a “special song” for each person he knew that always made them feel important.  His talents blessed us all.  Not only did he like to make music, he loved to dance and always made sure that there wasn’t a lady on the sidelines missing out on the action!

Higinio always sought adventure and enjoyed sharing the fun with his family.  Whether it be a vacation to California, a hunting or fishing trip in the mountains, or a picnic in the park, he was always ready and urging other to be ready!  The plan didn’t have to be grand; he found adventure and joy in the little things in life.  He always taught his family that this is what memories are made of.

Higinio went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 28, 2021.  His last days were filled with all of the above: family (lots of them), friends, music, stories, laughter, tears (lots of those also) and most of all, LOVE because that was what he was and that is what he cultivated.

Higinio, Daddy, Papo, Higgins, Cotch, Pops, Primo, Brother, you will be missed.  “Until we meet again, vaya con Dios!”
