Hilario "Hermie" Vigil

December 23, 1931 — March 6, 2021

Hilario “Hermie” VigilPassed on to our Lord Jesus peacefully in the early morning of March 6, 2021 at home. He is preceded in death by his wife Dolores in 2002 and his daughter Lorraine in 2019, his parents, Hilario and Antonia Vigil, sisters Mary Romero and Beatrice Gonzales, brothers Robert and Luis Vigil. Hilario was born on December 23,1931 in Las Vegas, NM. He was the youngest son and 6th child. Hilario has always been a hard worker; even as a youngster he was was shining shoes and sweeping up barber shops on the Santa Fe plaza. He graduated from Santa Fe High school in 1951, enlisted and served 4 years in the US Navy. He met his wife Dolores and were married in what is now the Santuario de Guadalupe in 1959. They had three children and were married for 42 years. Hilario worked hard at building an Adobe home for the family surrounded by rock walls and a white picket fence. He worked 30 years for the NM State Department of Game & Fish as a graphic artist and photo specialist. He was very creative and an excellent leather craftsman. He would make hand carved leather wallets, belts, purses, knife cases and just about anything else if you asked him. When his brothers would sell Christmas trees, he would make Christmas wreaths to sell. He liked staying busy and productive but he also enjoyed hunting with his brothers, son, nephews and friends. He enjoyed fishing and camping in the summers with the family. He was on the quiet, soft spoken side but he had an unexpected sense of humor. He was an excellent provider and a dedicated Catholic. He worked to put his kids through Catholic elementary and high school and passed on the Catholic faith to his children-one of the greatest gifts he left. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his son, Larry and daughter Laura Vigil, his brother Isidro Vigil, sisters Betty Sanchez and Eloisa Bustos, many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Special thanks to all of the Ambercare staff, nurses Rachel W. Margarita, and Aaron; Luisa with Best Way Home Health Care, Susan and Geri Ann for the help and care during his time at home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 17th at 9:30am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church 417 Agua Fria St, Santa Fe.
