Hilario Maestas

Hilario Able “Shorty” Maestas, age 72 and a resident of Acoma, New Mexico, passed away at home on Monday, April 4, 2016. Hilario was born in Canjilon, NM to Hilario and Bersabe Maestas who preceded him in death along with his step father, Margarito Esquibel, his Grand Parents, Beatris Jaramillo and Mejejildo Romero, his sisters Doloritas Lucero and Celina Baldonado, a niece, Mable War and nephews: Johnathan Pacheco, Abel Lucero, Raymond, Andy, Tonie and Wallie Maestas. Hilario was married to and is survived by his wife, Gloria Ascencio-Maestas. There were married on April 13, 2010 in Grants, NM. Also surviving are his sons, Gabriel Maestas of Acoma, NM and Brian Maestas and wife, Jennifer of Hernandez, NM. A sister, Salome Maestas of Espanola, NM and granddaughters, Janiesa and Faith Maestas of Hernandez, NM. Nieces and Nephews: Lydia and husband Manuel Vigil, Carmen Baldonado, Jr. Baldonado, Benny Vigil of Espanola and Bertha and husband Ray Baca of Chamita and many other relatives and friends. Hilario “Shorty” was a longtime manufacture at Nambe Mills. He loved spending time with his family and making people laugh. He always made sure his family was always well taken care of. He was known by many to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. Public visitation for Mr. Maestas will be held from 6 – 9PM, Thursday, April 7th at Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola with a Rosary being prayed at 7PM. Cremation of his body will follow that evening. On Friday morning at 11AM, April 8th a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola. His cremated remains will be placed alongside his parents at the Sacred Heart Cemetery immediately after the Mass. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Jr. Baldonado, Benny Vigil, Ray Baca, Matthew Vigil, Anthony Ray Baca and Erik Baca. The family of Hilario Able “Shorty” Maestas has entrusted the care of their loved one to the Rivera Funeral Home of Espanola.
