August 4, 1933 – January 3, 2025

In the early morning of January 3rd, Horacio reached out his hands and touched the face of God and ended his journey here on Earth. He was born in Espanola, New Mexico to Herculano and Maclovia Herrera. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers; John, Ramon, Dennis and Maclovio. His sister, Adela (Orlando) Rodriguez, sister-in-law Cheryl Herrera, his son Michael Trujillo and daughter Elaine Sanders.

He is survived by Pauline, his beloved wife of 54 years. His sons Steve Herrera and John (Diana) Trujillo, his daughter Jeannette Jewell, Grandson, whom he raised as his own, Jacob Herrera, siblings Pat Herrera and family, Sylvia (Jerry) Atencio and family, sister-in-law Diolinda Herrera and family. He

is survived by 6 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, who affectionately called him ‘Uncle Horacio’ or ‘Uncle Chico’.

He graduated from Espanola High School and the College of Santa Fe with a Bachelor of College Studies and he served in the Army for 2 years. He was employed by the Department of Corrections for 18 years and later owned and operated his own laundry and dry-cleaning business for 20 years. He was active in many community activities to include the Turquoise Trail Volunteer Fire Department, St. Joseph’s Parish Council in Cerrillos, N.M. and he helped prepare and serve meals to the homeless at The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Santa Fe. He belonged to the Hermanos de Jesus Cristo and the Knights of Columbus at Santa Maria de La Paz Catholic Community, Council 10517. Doing missionary work in Honduras on several occasions. He received the distinguished award: “Knights of Columbus New Mexico State Council – Knight of the Year 2011-2012”.

We would like to thank the Presbyterian Hospice Health Care Services for the companionate and excellent care they gave Horacio. Especially: Win, Rho, Dolores and Lillianna.

Services will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Santa Fe. Rosary at 10:30 with Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow immediately at the Parish Hall. Everyone is invited to celebrate Horacio’s life.

Pallbearers: Steven Herrera, Paul Patrick Herrera, Johnny Victor Herrera, Justin Trujillo, Daniel Sanders and Jason Sanders. Honorary Pallbearers: Hermanos de Jesus Cristo and the Knights of Columbus at Santa Maria de La Paz Catholic Community, council 10517.

His faith ran deep and his outlook of life was beyond reproach. He always saw the good in everyone and everything he came across. He will be deeply missed. May his passing be a blessing.
