Hywel White

Hywel White, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 20th. Born on June 4th, 1931 in Cardiff, Wales, Hywel is survived by his sister Anne, his two sons, Richard and Christopher, four grandchildren, and a number of other family members in both the US and UK. He will be joining his wife of more than 50 years, Frances, who passed away in 2010. A strong believer in education and learning, Hywel graduated from Cardiff University and then received his PhD in Physics from the University of Birmingham where he met Frances. After moving to the United States in 1959, he taught at both the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University before centering his efforts on research at Brookhaven National Laboratory and then finally at Los Alamos National Labs. Hywel and Frances moved to Santa Fe in 1986 and thoroughly enjoyed their time getting involved in local activities including the Desert Chorale. They made many friends and cherished the relationships that were developed. Although we are saddened to see Hywel depart, we are comforted that he did so on his own terms, supported by family and friends, and content in the opportunity he had to lead a full life. Hywel will be cremated with no explicit services but everyone’s kind thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. Many thanks to Hospice, PCM, and Coming Home Connection for their care and support.
