Ida Herrera

September 3, 1935 — June 29, 2020

Ida Herrera also known as Nanny, was born on September 3, 1935 in Velarde, NM, to Salomon and Rufina Duran. She passed peacefully at home with her family by her side.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents Salomon and Rufina, sisters Acension Herrera, Helen Ortega and her brother Ezsekiel Duran.

For many years, Ida struggled with Rhumatoid Arthritis (RA) in her hands and her feet, so for the last 10 years she was not able to walk. She also fought with the horrible disease Dementia. Even with all the pain from the RA, she would try to get up from her bed.

Ida was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Robert, devoted mother to her son Robert and daughter Esther. Ida was a strong and hard worker her whole life. She enjoyed planting flowers and if she saw weeds, she would get down on her knees and pull them out. Ida was known for her biscochitos and her delicious Tewa tacos. In her younger days, you would find her cooking thanksgiving dinner every year for the whole family. In her spare time, she enjoyed sitting at the table playing poker, Yahtzee, working on her puzzles, and always with a cigarette in her left hand since she was left-handed. She also enjoyed casinos and playing bingo and especially enjoyed fishing and camping.

Ida is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert Herrera, her daughter Esther Trujillo (Mark), her sons Robert and Gilbert, her sister Yolanda Montoya (Jimmy), grandaughter Crystal Sanchez (Michael), and grandson Gabriel Trujillo (Sasha), Sister-in-law Flora Herrera, and Brothers-in-law Ben and Joe Herrera.

Our family would like to extend a special thanks to the Rivera Funeral Home, Del Corazon Hospice, Homecare Tristan Atencio, Lori Montoya, Rueben and Elsie, Sally Matthews, and a special thank you to her sister Yolanda Montoya.

A Private Rosary will be recited on Friday July 3 at 5:00pm at Rivera Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Santa Cruz de la Cañada on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at 2:00pm.
