Irene Corina Maes Dowrey

Irene Corina Maes- Dowrey of Santa Fe, Passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2017. Irene was Preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Guadalupita A. Maes, her beloved husband, Gardner (Pete) Dowrey, brother, Eloy L. Maes, Sisters, Carolina Maes, Susie M. Montoya, Dora M. Rodriguez, Isabel M. Trujillo, nephews, Carlos Montoya, Patrick Rodriguez, Larry Rodriguez, Niece, Margaret A. Roybal-Gonzales, and Brother-in-Law Reverend Robert Dowrey, Survived by her sisters, Sister Mary Josephine Maes, OLVM, Connie M. Howley (John), Marie M. Roybal (Tito), Mela M. Vigil, her brothers, Gilbert G. Maes, Michael J. Maes, Step Sons, Michael S. Dowrey, Ricahrd A. Dowrey (Bobbi), Step Grandchildren, Mike, Garrett, Jesse, Darrion and Jake Dowrey, Sister-in-Law, Cathy Dowrey, and many beloved nephews and nieces, great nephews, great nieces, relatives and friends. Irene attended Agua Fria Elementary School and graduated from Santa Fe High School, Class of 1952. Irene enjoyed people, especially her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and their families. She had and admired her many friends. Irene also enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Irene was employed by the State and Federal Goverments. Her last place of employment was at the Department of Military Affairs In the 1950’s and 1960’s Irene assisted the Franciscan Friars from St. Francis Cathedral Church now known as Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis in their catechetical program. She belonged to the St. Anne choir and the St. Anne’s Junior Catholic Daughters of America. She later became a counselor for the Cristo Rey parish Juniors. She belonged to the Legion of Mary both at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Frances and St. Anne’s parish and was a member of the St. Francis Third Order Fraternity. Irene also volunteered at St. Elizabeth’s Shelter and was an active member of Saint Anne Church. A Rosary will be recited at Rivera Family Funeral Home (Kiva Chapel) on Sunday April, 16th, 2017 at 6:00p.m. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday April 17th, 2017 at 10:00a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Burial will take place following at 11:15a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
