Iris Steinhoff

August 30, 1930 — October 10, 2022

Iris Steinhoff peacefully left this world on 10/10/2022 from her home in Santa Fe. Her local family was present for her departure from this life.

Iris lived in New Mexico for over 50 years, but deep inside she will always be Nebraskan.  She was born on her family farm in central Nebraska on 8/30/1930; the sixth and last child of Ray and Isabelle Wells.  She attended the University of Nebraska and married her sweetheart Bob Steinhoff from her same town of Sargent, NE.  They were life partners raising 4 children, moving across states with Bob’s career as a forester in the US Forest Service.  They enjoyed a long retirement full of travel, volunteering, and active lifelong participation in the United Methodist Church.  Their total time on earth together was 63 years.

Iris worked as a high school Home Economics teacher in the early years of marriage, but her most rewarding career was the choice to be a homemaker.  Iris is survived by her 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren: daughter Cynthia Rector (Ed) of Santa Fe, granddaughter Crela Frye (Scott) and great grandchildren Linden and Tanner of Pittsburgh, PA, grandsons Hayden Rector (Kristina Martinez) and Stuart Rector (Abigal Hunter) of Santa Fe; son Craig Steinhoff and grandchildren Lydia and Walker of Santa Fe; daughter Carol Bennet and grandson Garrison of Longmont, CO; and daughter Cheryl Jones and grandchildren Kathryn and Silas of Seattle, WA.

Services will be held Monday October 17th at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Santa Fe at 11 am.  Donations in Iris Steinhoff’s honor can be sent to STUMC Foundation, 1200 Old Pecos Tr., Santa Fe, NM 87505.
