Jacintita James

1934 — September 12, 2024

Jacintita Garcia James, (affectionately known to all as Tita), born January 27, 1934, departed her earthly home on September 12, 2024, (90) of natural causes, at Taos, New Mexico, her hometown.

Tita graduated from Taos High School in1953. She was a faithful, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served an honorable mission for the Church, from 1954 to1955, in the Spanish American Mission, Texas Lower Valley (San Antonio Mission Home).

Upon completion of her mission, Tita began working for Southwestern Bell in Taos. In 1971 she transferred to Little Rock Arkansas with Southwestern Bell where her future

husband, Nick James was stationed with the United States Air Force. Tita and Nick

were married October 1, 1973, in Little Rock Arkansas. They moved back to Taos in early 1991. Nick began building their house a couple months later. Within six months they moved into their new home where Tita lived until her death. Nick and Tita were sealed for time and eternity in the Albuquerque, New Mexico, Temple, July 23, 2013.

As a young woman Tita was a member of the Spanish Dance Club and attended the Folk Festival in Kansas City, Missouri. She played piano, tap danced, rode horses and loved butterflies. She kept alive traditional family recipes among them, biscochitos, empanadas and apple pie. Tita was a member of the Taos Chamber of Commerce. She was a caregiver at the young age of 15 for Mrs. Marcia Montaner.

Tita was renowned for her immaculate and beautifully kept home. In that beautiful home, she never forgot a friend or family member's special occasion, especially birthdays. She generously bestowed gifts and love on her family. Family members were her specialty. Tita gave us a fine example for loving our families.

Tita was preceded in death by her parents Bernabe and Marina (Gonzales) Garcia. She is survived by her husband Nicolas Salvador James, sister Preciliana (Pres) Garcia, brother

Bernabe (Bernie) Garcia, sons Steven Rivera and Ray Rivera and stepson Kerry James,

as well as grandchildren, nieces, nephews and hosts of friends who loved this beautiful lady. Services will be held on October 3, 2024 at 10AM at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
