It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jacquelyn “Jackie” Mapes, of Ranchos De Taos. Jackie passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving partner Jeff Einhorn, her family and many friends.
Jackie was born on May of 1951 to Douglas and Evelyn Hurst in Tokyo, Japan. She and her family moved to Monterey, California where they spent many years. In the late 1970s Jackie moved to Taos and made it her permanent home.
She is described as a vibrant, beautiful soul, with a kind, generous and giving heart. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love for her family, friends and animals, strength of spirit and an unending generosity for those around her.
Jackie had a passion for animals large and small and gardening of both flowers, fruits and vegetables. She was an amazing garden fairy and could make anything grow under her watchful green thumb. Jackie made beautiful jewelry and beading become one of her most amazing talents.
She was a well-known local figure having worked for the Lilac Shop, A Little Fishy, Taos Tack and Ace Hardware.
Even at the end she found a way to smile and laugh. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She made an impact on many lives and will be forever missed.
She is survived by her partner Jeff Einhorn (Taos), her sister Cindy Warren (Texas) and Elaine Ray (Taos).
