James A. ‘Jimmy’ Varela, a resident of Pecos was called by our Lord on September 30, 2017. He was born on July 12, 1957 in Santa Fe, NM and resided in Pecos most of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Angelica, Victoria (daughter), Juan (son), Mary “Suegra” (mother-in-law), Leona Shaw (sister-in law), Chris Rivera (brother-in-law), Betty Varela (Mother), Lorraine Maley (Special Aunt), Allen Varela, Joey Varela, Frankie Varela, Dana Lamarre (siblings), four godchildren, and numerous relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan & Trinidad Varela, Frank Varela (Father), Dolores Ortiz (aunt), and special brother-in-law Ron Shaw. He was a family man who treasured time spent with loved ones, and devoted himself to God. He was also a member of the Legion of Mary. He especially enjoyed attending sporting events that involved his children. He was a diehard Raider, LA Lakers, and Dodger fan, and his love for music and drumming was unceasing. His legacy of his unconditional love for his wife and children and his passion for music will remain in our hearts forever. He will be dearly missed. Pallbearers are: Tim Kailey, Billy Varela, Andrew Varela, Daryl Quintana, Peter Vigil, and Ben Tanuz. Honorary pallbearers: Charlie Varela, Joseph Ortiz, Paul Vigil, Clint Wells, Ben Lucero, Michael King, Xavier Padilla, Anthony Armijo, Ismael Villegas, Christian Tanuz, Devin Gonzales, and Aaron Ortiz.
All services will be held at St. Anthony’s Church, Pecos, NM:
Friday, October 6, 2017 – Visitation at 5:00 - 5:30 pm, Rosary at 5:30 pm
Visitation at 6:15 - 6:45 pm, Rosary at 7:00 pm
Saturday, October 7, 2017 Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at the Pecos Cemetery.
Reception will be held at the Pecos Valley Senior Center. Please join us to celebrate his life.
