James R. Baldwin, 85, of Los Alamos, NM, passed away on November 14, 2021. He was born on August 18, 1936 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to James M. and Letrice Baldwin. His wife Hazel preceded him in death.
Survivors include his sister Shirley (Del) of White Rock, NM; cousin Letrice (Bob) Davis; nephews Richard Harbur, Randel (Sherry) Harbur, and David (Rita Harbur); niece Julie (Terry) Clarence, and numerous grand nephews, grand nieces, and great great grand nephews.
James was a loving and kind Brother, Cousin, Friend and Uncle.
Mr. Baldwin proudly served his country in the United States Army at Fort Carson, Colorado where he served as a restricted radio telephone operator. He was an active participant in the Military Air Transport Service (MATS) arm that included the first mass military air lift by jet transport in 1958.
James worked as a PE licensed Architectural Engineer with the Jacobs Engineering Group and he had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed general aviation and boating, and he was an avid stamp collector who was elected treasurer of the American Philatelic Society and was a member of the Scandinavian Collectors Club. James was a member of the National Rifle Association of America and he held numerous expert sharpshooter awards. He was a supporter of the University of Colorado’s College of Engineering and Applied science and had recently established the James R. Baldwin Endowed Scholarship Fund.
A memorial service will be held at 10 Am on April 14, 2022 located at the Rivera Family Funeral Home on 417 East Rodeo Road, Santa Fe New Mexico. Burial will be at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos New Mexico at 3PM. Ministers of the faith and fellowship he loved will officiate in his memorial service.
