James Cannon, beloved husband, father, son , brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 20, 2009 surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He had a brief battle with esophageal cancer.
James, 53, was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to New Mexico in 1983. He met his wife Greta at an art show on Santa Fe plaza in 1984. They united, married and have a teenage daughter, Kayln. He always considered his marriage and family his greatest accomplishment.
He was a treasured artist who created jewelry as well as sculpture. One of his many passions was stone cutting and the lapidary arts. His tranquil sculptures incorporated beach pebbles and other found objects. James delighted in the inspiration he gained from picking up a pebble off the beach and transforming it into a one of a kind piece of art.
He lived life to the fullest. His web of family, friends, and relatives stretches across the world. He embraced life and felt incredibly blessed every day. James was a funny, kind, generous person who will be greatly missed. He lives on in all of us who had the gift of knowing him.
A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2:00pm at the Zocalo. Take 84/285 N to exit 599 relief route.
