James “Jim” Waldo Toevs passed away on September 27, 2024.He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Waldo and Dorothy Toevs. “Jim” attended high school at East High School in Pueblo, Colorado and received his bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics at the University of Colorado. He furthered his studies at California Institute of Technology, receiving his Ph.D. in Astro Physics.
Jim began his career as a physics professor at Hope College in Holland, Michigan and subsequently worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory. When he retired, Jim continued his work for LANL as a consultant, living in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Jim was an avid musician. He was self-taught on the trumpet during his youth and later in life took lessons. He played trumpet in the Los Alamos Symphony; Sin Nombre Brass Quintet and at various churches. Jim sang in the Santa Fe Symphony Chorus and First Presbyterian Church choir. He was devoted to his church, volunteering on many committees.
Jim is survived by his wife Pauline Trujillo Toevs; daughter Kimberly Erin Toevs & granddaughter Saoirse Wilder (wife Marisol Lorenzón); Gwen Robin Toevs (husband Michael Lewis) & grandson Taj Lewis; son William Heath Noxon (wife Alejandra Noxon) & grandson William Heath Noxon Jr.; sister Teryl Toevs Merrill & nephew Jim Fouch & niece Jennifer Miller (husband Mark Miller).
Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 18,2024 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. You can stream the service at fpcsantafe.org.
