Jean Tubbs Carey (November 5, 1915 - October 18, 2010)Passed away on October 18, 2010 in Santa Fe, NM with her daughter, Judith, holding her hand at her bedside.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Comer Carey. Jean is survived by her daughters, Judith Carey and Barbara Carey Johnstone, and son-in-law, James Johnstone; brother Charles (Buddy) Tubbs; grandchildren Paulla Estes of Maine, Carey Rich of Washington, Kyle Johnstone of Texas, Grant Johnstone of Oregon, and their respective spouses; and 10 great-grandchildren. Jean was born November 5, 1915 in Hope, Arkansas to Elsie and Augustus Tubbs, the third of seven children. She married Ernest Comer Carey on January 18, 1936 and they made their home in Houston. Jean's life revolved around her family.
Her daughters and their families were in her thoughts constantly, and she never tired of talking about them and showering gifts on them. Her surviving family remembers her as spunky and politically informed, as well as a wonderful cook and a lady who loved to laugh. Jean lived her last seven-and-a-half years near her daughters in Santa Fe.
A private celebration of life wwas held in Santa Fe, on or around what would have been Jean's 95th birthday.
