Jeanette "Jean" Hansen
Jean Hansen, long-time resident of Los Alamos, died peacefully in Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, July 9, 2006. Born Jeanette Johanna Sents to Dutch immigrant parents, on a farm near Eddyville, Iowa, on September 29, 1913, Jean was the sixth of 12 siblings. The older of them, Cora, John, Angeline, Abraham, and Leonard, preceded her in death, as did younger siblings Wilma, Clara, James, and Lana. She is survived by two younger brothers Tunis (of Caldwell, Idaho) and Paul (of Birmingham, Alabama), along with many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as three stepsons Christopher, Mark, and Kent Hansen, and their families.
Jean came to Los Alamos in 1949, working in LANL for 27 years, mostly as a computer tech, retiring in 1977. She met and married another LANL employee, Wilfred (Bill) Hansen, with whom she enjoyed wonderful years until his death in 1988. She was an avid bowler, golfer, and bridge player; she belonged to Eastern Star (Unity Chapter); she was a frequent civic volunteer. Jean leaves many neighbors and friends whom she dearly treasured, never more than while a resident in Sombrillo. She was a beloved 30-year member of White Rock Presbyterian Church (310 Rover Blvd.), who will hold a memorial service to celebrate her life on Thursday, July 20th, 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception; the public is welcome.
Block-Salazar Mortuary of Española (305 Calle Salazar) is in charge of funeral arrangements. A viewing is scheduled for this Thursday, July 13th, from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A brief graveside ceremony, for family and friends, will be held at Guaje Pines Cemetary, Los Alamos, on Friday, July 14th, at 10:00 a.m., the Rev. Harry Chronis, Pastor of White Rock Presbyterian Church, presiding.
In lieu of flowers, Jean requested that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Her church will also receive memorial contributions in her name.
