Jennie Socorro Maés, passed away on June 13, 2017 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Santa Fe, NM to Aurelia Romero and Manuel Bermudez. Socorro grew up in the Agua Fria village area. She received her Bachelor’s degree at the College of Santa Fe and her Master’s degree at UNM for Bilingual Education. She met her husband Adolfo Pedro Maés and married him on February 3, 1962, together they raised five wonderful children. She taught at Atalaya and Larragoite Elementary Schools and retired after 22 years. Socorro also taught English as a Second Language at the Santa Fe Community College with Adolfo, touching the lives of many students.
Socorro enjoyed her retirement camping with family, friends and her two Yorkies, Shakira and Chanel, spending their time at Fun Valley in Colorado and the family ranch in northern New Mexico. She was very creative and had a talent for making special gifts for her loved ones. Socorro was a strong, beautiful woman that lost her courageous battle with pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed in April of 2016. She is now resting in the loving arms of our Father. She will be missed immensely by her family, friends and to those who knew her as “Mrs. Maés”.
Socorro is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Adolfo Pedro Maés; children, Michael Maés, David Maés (Michaela), Catherine Maés, Loretta Maés-Bischoff (Randy), and Veronica Maés Perez (Robert); 13 grandchildren, Michelle, Angelica, Jolene, Jaclyn, Janet, Carlos, Juan, Gabriel, Gabriela, Clarissa, Marisol, Nicholas, and Miquela; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Angie, Orlesia, Gloria (Mike), Liz (Pat) and Tony (Patsy); and many other special in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Ramon, Joe and Henry.
The Rosary will be recited on Monday, June 19, 2017, 7:00 p.m., at Historic San Isidro Church, 3688 Agua Fria Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at Historic San Isidro Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Urnbearers will be Carlos, Gabriel G., Gabriel O., Nicholas, Carlito and Moses. Per Socorro’s request, please wear white and send white floral arrangements in her honor.
