Jeronimo “Jerry” Montano, born in San Jose, New Mexico, and a resident of Santa Fe, NM for over 50 years, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 of COVID-19.
Jerry was born to Brigido and Eumelia Montano on July 20, 1942. He graduated from Robertson High School in 1961. He was drafted into the Army in 1964, he went to Vietnam, and he was honorably discharged in 1966. While serving in Vietnam, Jerry worked in Grave Registry, where he painstakingly prepared his fallen military brothers for their return home to their families.
He met and married Mary Margaret Lucero, of Villanueva, NM in 1968, they moved to Santa Fe, and started their family. They had two daughters, Rebecca and Catherine, known by most as “Deanie”.
Jerry worked for the Highway Department and private surveyors. He retired from the State of New Mexico in 1986.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Montano; his children Rebecca and Andre Montano-Parris, Deanie Montano and his grandchildren, Jeremiah Montano, and Isabella Montano; his siblings Lawrence and Cecilia Montano, Modesto and Sharon Montano, and Rosella “Margie” and Ron Gutierrez.
Jerry suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for over ten years, during which he was cared for by his wife, daughters, and Steve Hill (formal caregiver). He resided at Sierra Vista Memory Care Community for the last 17 months of his life, where he was cared for with love and dignity.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jeremiah Montano, Isabella Montano, Andre Parris, Damien Bohannon, Joseph Torrez, Julie Gutierrez, Robby Gutierrez, Larry Sena, Randy Gallegos, and Steve Hill.
A Rosary will be recited on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Maria De La Paz located at 11 College Dr, Santa Fe, NM followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be held at a later time.
Attendance is limited due to covid and masks are mandatory.
