JERRY RAYMOND MANZAGOL'S OBITUARY

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved husband, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend and neighbor. Jerry left this earth on March 18, 2024 at the age of 86 after suffering a stroke at his home.

 

He was born May 25, 1937 in Dearborn, Michigan to Claud and Mary Manzagol. Moving to Albuquerque he graduated from Highland High School in 1955. He served in the Army, attended the University of New Mexico graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, with a Major in Government and Minor in English. He later earned a Master of Arts at the University of New Mexico in Public Administration.

 

Jerry began his public service career at State Personnel Department as Deputy Director, 1973 to 1975. Director, Commissioner Department of Motor Vehicle, Transportation Department, 1975 to 1978. Motor Vehicle Division Director 1978 to 1982. City Manager for the City of Santa Fe 1982 to 1986. Deputy and Cabinet Secretary for State Health and Environment Department 1986 to 1987. State Administrator for US Senator Jeff Bingaman, 1986 to 1988. Listed and sold Santa Fe Real Estate1989 to 1991.

Superintendent for Regulation and Licensing 1991to 1994. Upon retirement he continued to serve on the State Personnel Board.

 

Jerry was an avid runner and worked out at the Geneva Chavez Center. He played semi-pro baseball with teammate US Senator Pete Dominici. He was a fan of Elvis and Country Western music, the Detroit Lions and Tigers, reading and sports. He enjoyed and missed the "Wednesday Breakfast Club" members who met for years and are now deceased. He loved animals and liked walking his many dogs through the years.

 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Mary Manzagol, in laws George and Lena Rougemont, step son Rick Serna, nephew Neil Rougemont, uncle Richard Satorie, aunt Mae Satorie from Billings, Montana and cousin Jack Winfre from Dearborn, Michigan.

 

At the end of the day the most important things in Jerry's life were his family, his beloved wife Sheila of 42 years and his pride and joy, grandson Eric who he helped raise. His birds, dogs and cats. Cousin Mike Satorie from Billings, Montana, longtime friend Bill Caples from Albuquerque, sister in law Bernadette Gurule, niece Cherryl Rougemont, nephew Shane Rougemont, Bob, Richard, Bill and Daniel Rougemont brother in laws and many friends and kind neighbors.
