Jimmy J. Medrano
March 28, 1935 - September 26, 2017
Jimmy J. Medrano, age 82, a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, passed away on September 26, 2017, surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his son, David Medrano; parents, Tom & Esther Medrano; brother, Tommy Medrano; sisters, Amelia Quintana and Theresa Work. He is survived by his wife, Celia Medrano; son, Larry (Jonette) Medrano; daughters, Carol (Rafael) Cisneros and Joyce (Ty) Paywa; granddaughters, Jessica (Ernest Saiz) Medrano and Racquel Paywa; grandson, Alan Cisneros; great-granddaughter, Autumn Saiz; sister, Christine (Waldo) Garcia; and brothers, Robert “Bobby” (Marlene) Medrano, Mike (Consuelo) Medrano, Phillip (Dorothy Sanchez) Medrano; many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
Jimmy served in the US Army from January 1958 to December 1959 where he developed a love for Germany and German food. He was dedicated to his career in the field of land surveying and was a member of New Mexico Professional Surveyors (NMPS). He was awarded the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award in land surveying and was a Surveyor of the Year recipient. He was also a mentor and friend to many. He was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. Jimmy was devoted to his wife Celia, the love of his life, his family and his many friends. He had a smile that radiated throughout a room and he could make anyone feel like family. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, we request a donation in his name be made to the Food Depot, 1222 Siler Road, Santa Fe, NM 87507.
Visitations will be Monday, October 2nd at 6:00 pm with a rosary to follow at 7:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, October 3rd at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with a reception following the Mass. Interment will be Tuesday, October 3rd at 3:00 pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ty Paywa, Rafael Cisneros and Alan Cisneros.
