We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband/father Joe T. Chavez Sr. He died peacefully on Tuesday November 5, 2024, after a long illness in Pecos New Mexico surrounded by loving friends and family.
He was born April 15, 1961, to Juan G. Chavez and Maria Estella Tellez Chavez in Las Cruces NM. Joe graduated from Gadsden High School where he played football as an offensive lineman in 1979. He also played in the band at Gadsden High School.
Joe is survived by his loving wife JoAnn, son Joe Chavez Jr. (Bonny), daughters Jessica Chavez, and Jennifer Chavez.
Grandchildren: Alena, Angelina, Daniella, Elias, Lilliana, Jazmyn, and Jaylynn.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Juan G. Chavez Sr. and Maria Estella Chavez from San Miguel New Mexico, Sister Teresa Carson, from Oklahoma, and brother Michael Chavez, from Phoenix Arizona.
Joe is also survived by his sibling, Priscilla Evaro, from Las Cruces New Mexico, Maggie (MOM) Triviz from Rio Rancho NM, Irene Munoz, from Las Cruces NM, Becky Arroyo from Phoenix Arizona.
Brothers Juan Chavez Jr. from Chaparral NM, Jesus (Chuy) Chavez from Madison Wisconsin. His extended brothers Richard Norman, John Roybal, Joel Hernandez and James Nicholas.
Joe retired after serving the State of New Mexico fire Marshals office as an Arson Investigator. He also worked for the New Mexico department of Corrections in Las Cruces and Santa Fe For 18 years before transferring to the State fire Marshals office.
Joe enjoyed his family and being with them at home. Joe enjoyed watching college football and his favorite professional team, the “CHICAGO BEARS”. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoy being outdoors. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed picnics and outdoor cooking as well. Joe will be greatly missed.
Joe was a devout Catholic and a member of the Santa Maria de La Paz Catholic Community.
Funeral Service will be scheduled at Santa Maria De La Paz Catholic Church on Friday November 15, 2024, at 9:30AM AM for the Rosary Service to be followed by Mass at 10AM.
Interment will follow in San Miguel New Mexico TBD.
