Jose Erasto Gonzales, 93, died on the 10th of June 2011, at his home in Pojoaque. Joe was born on May 17, 1918 in San Ildefonso, and is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Tillie, whom he referred to as darling. He is also survived by his daughter Paula, son Pablo and wife Mary, and grandchildren Gustavo, Darian, and Dana Gonzales. Joe had been ill these past two years, but always stayed cheerful, never complained, and always loved visits from family and friends. Joe was always willing to listen, give advice, and share his memories. He is remembered as a caring, compassionate and selfless person, and was well loved. He will be forever remembered by his brothers in-law and sisters in-law, numerous nephews, nieces, large extended family, and many, many, dear friends. Joe served in the United State Army, during World War II, from 1942-1945, as a Sergeant for the Signal Core both in the European and Pacific Theatres. He served his country with honor and pride. Mr. Gonzales was a graduate of the first graduating class of Pojoaque in 1938. He had a 39 year career working for the New Mexico Soil and Water and the Agricultures Conservation departments, the Zia Company in Los Alamos, and the New Mexico Highway Department. He was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus (Council #3314), Union Protectiva De Santa Fe, and an active member of the Pojoaque Parish. The family receive friends and relatives on June 21,2011 at the Nuestra Senora De Guadalupe Church in Pojoaque, followed by a "Meditation of the Rosary". The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 22, 2011 at the Nuestra Senora De Guadalupe Church in Pojoaque. Immediately following was a Celebration of Life's gathering and meal at the Pojoaque Parish Hall. Private Interment was at the National Cemetery at a later date.
