Joe P. Gutierrez (Tiger)
Joe P. Gutierrez (Tiger) 92, passed away suddenly on January 9, 2023 at his home. He is preceded in death by his mother Antonia (Tonnie) Gutierrez, father Pacifico (Pax) Gutierrez, and Maternal Grandparents Magdalena & Manuel Romero.
Joe was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on November 19, 1930. He attended grade school at Wood Gormley, Harrington Junior High and went on to attend Santa Fe High School. During his high school years, he was on the Hall Guard Committee, Student Council, President of The Craftsman Club & Drama Club. He also played on the A team for the Santa Fe High Football Team. He was nominated and selected by his teachers to participate in Boys State in Las Cruces, N.M. Joe met his loving wife Marie Olivas at a school dance. After graduating high school in 1949 Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force as an arial Photographer. He served from 1950 1 to 1953 and had ranking as Staff Sargent.
Joe pursued a career in Photography and worked as the store manager at the Camera Shop in downtown Santa Fe for over 40 years. He captured many memories for family and friends over the years. Joe was always physically active. He could always be found at Fort Marcy playing racquetball, weightlifting, or playing tennis. He had a passion for skiing which led him to be a volunteer for 17 years as a Ski Patrol at the Santa Fe Ski Basin. Joe also participated in Elk’s Club and was a member for 15 years and was an Exalted Ruler.
Joe’s love for people and his family was undeniable. He had such an infectious smile and personality it would light up a room. Anyone who met him was always greeted with a happy smile and the infamous “handshake’.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Marie of 71 years, his son Joseph Gutierrez (and wife DiAna), daughter Bernadette Lovato (and late husband Ismael), Sister Theresa Gutierrez, God- daughter Elizabeth Davidson-Arellano(and husband Joe), Granddaughters, Nicole Dixon (and husband Jaison), Emilia Gutierrez (and husband Andrew), Julia Peterson (and husband Steve), great grandchildren Jalil & Jaison Dixon, Ada Peterson, and Isabel Maisel. He also had so many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.
Services will be held Monday January 30, 2023 at St. Annes Catholic Church Rosary at 9am and Mass at 10am. Burial is still pending. Pallbearers are Joseph Gutierrez, Jasion Dixon, Steve Peterson, Jalil Dixon, Joe Arellano, Al Gonzales & Honorary Pallbearer Andrew Maisel
