Jo Ferdinand

November 15, 1937 — April 16, 2023

Jo Ann (Jo) Ferdinand of Los Alamos passed away on April 16th, 2023.  Jo was born on Nov. 15th, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed, and infant daughter, Debbie.

She is survived by her son Kevin, and wife Kate, son Mike and wife Kelly and daughter, Denise and husband Rick.  Four granddaughters.  Karen, Andrea, Eva and Megan and two great grandsons, Liam and Marshall.

Jo was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served on the altar committee for a number of years.

In 1965 she served as president of the Summit Garden club and on the Los Alamos Beautification Committee.

As a family they loved to go camping all over the southwest and western states.

When Ed retired, he and Jo did more extensive traveling to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Belize, the Cayman Islands. Tasmania, Rarotonga, Moorea, Vera Cruz, St. Barts, St. Martin and Saba.

She loved to play bridge and bowl.

In l991 Jo started rehabbing wild birds for the Espanola Wildlife Center and then for the Santa Fe Raptor Center.  She cared for orphaned and injured birds in her home for 22 years.  She was known fondly as “The Bird Lady.”

There will be a celebration of life on June 10th at 2:00 pm at The Bethlehem Lutheran Church 2390 North Rd. in Los Alamos New Mexico.
