John Anthony Quintana

John Anthony Quintana, of Santa Fe, NM, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on December 20, 1950, in Albuquerque, NM, John grew up with a strong sense of community and a deep commitment to making a difference. He earned his undergraduate degree from New Mexico Highlands University, where he cultivated his passion for service and social advocacy.

Following his graduation, John began his career in Las Vegas, NM, before settling in Santa Fe, the city that would capture his heart and become his lifelong home. Known for his tireless dedication to local politics and community development, John turned down a prestigious appointment in Washington, D.C., choosing instead to focus his efforts on improving life for the people of Santa Fe.

John's colleagues and federal contacts often praised his exceptional grant-writing abilities and unwavering dedication to his community. His contributions not only improved lives but also strengthened the fabric of the city he cherished so dearly.

Upon his retirement, John embarked on an extensive family research project, unearthing crucial background information previously unknown to his family. This personal undertaking inspired him to document his discoveries in a collection of family memoirs and fictional works titled Los Susurros del Barrio (The Whispers of the Neighborhood), preserving the rich tapestry of his family's history.

In recent years, John and his partner, Jeff Wade, began traveling abroad, with a special interest in exploring art museums across Italy, France, Spain, and New York City. He developed a deep connection to Spain, where he often visited his grandniece, Heaven, and her family, whom he adored. These visits provided such joy and inspiration for John, that, despite declining health, he had planned to return this coming spring. Sadly, his illness prevented this final trip, and after a prolonged stay at St.

Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe, he passed away peacefully.

John is survived by his two sisters, Antonia Pigno and Gigi Valles, as well as his sister-in-law, Pat Quintana. He also leaves behind a loving extended family, including several nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and grandnieces. His warmth, hum and dedication to his loved ones will be deeply missed.
