John (Chris) Christopher Abeyta, born January 24, 1950, musician, writer, teacher, activist devoted father, loving grandfather and friend to all, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2022. He was preceded in death by his beloved Tio Juan Bautista Rodriguez, father Utemio (Tim) Abeyta, mother Rose Abeyta, infant daughter Adi Shakti Abeyta, sister Adrienne Martinez and sister in law Patsy Abeyta.
Chris is survived by his children Roberta Cole and husband Joe, Roman “ Tiger” Abeyta and wife Geraldine, Juan Cristobal “Buddy” Abeyta and wife Sarah, Adi-Risa Gonzales and husband Estevan, and Amado Abeyta.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Madeline, Nathan (Deanna), Jon-Robert (Nicole), Michael (Aron), Jimmy (Ashley), Roman, Jacob, Dillon, Josh, Sophie, Adaiah, Asher and Amarisa. Great grandchildren, Aiden, Jude, Liam, Natalie Rose, Niko, Deron and Angeleena.
He is also survived by his brothers Joseph Abeyta and wife Marcie, Robert Abeyta, Ted Abeyta and wife Martha. And many nieces and nephews.
A Catholic Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday April 4, 2022 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church with the funeral mass to follow on Tuesday April 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. A burial service will be conducted at the National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 9:45 a.m.
A concert to celebrate the life and music of Chris Abeyta will be announced at a later date.
