John Chavez, 82 a lifelong resident of San Juan Pueblo, passed away on Jan. 12, 2005. Mr. Chavez was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the United States Army from 1941 – 1945, where he fought for his country during WWII. He was born on July 10, 1922 in San Juan Pueblo. He was known by many and loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents Faustine and Maria Chavez, four sisters – Nellie, Fannie, Rebecca and Maxine and also one brother, Ernest. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carmel Chavez, one brother Alfred Chavez and sisters, Mary Siow and Tommi Cata. Daughters –Mary, Jane, Rose, Juanita, Frances, Hazel, Irene, Sharon and Leila. One son, Eloy Chavez and three granddaughters he raised as his own, Nicole, Bianca and Roberta. Also many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A rosary will be recited at the family home in San Juan Pueblo, on Jan. 13, 2005 at 6:00 PM. A mass will be celebrated on January 14, 2005 at 10:00 AM at Saint John the Baptist church with burial following at the San Juan Pueblo cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are as follows: David Ortiz Jr., Joseph Ortiz, Floyd BringingGood, Leonard Baldonado, Ira Padilla and Michael Padilla Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are as follows: Peter Cata, Jose Chavez, John Allen Archuleta, Keith Chavez, Ricky Vigil, Henry Archuleta, Anthony Baldonado, Parker Wells and all grandchildren including great and great great grandchildren.
