John C. Stoumbis, of Espanola, born April 3, 1926 and passed away on March 15, 2007 was born in Minot, North Dakota to Christ and Elena Stoumbis. He served in WWII, Battle of the Bulge and was decorated with a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and several European Campaign Ribbons. After WWII, he moved to New Mexico to study art, and for the climate. After studying under such well known artist's such as, John Sloan, Will Schuster and others he would gain a degree in fine arts at UNM. He exhibited throughout the US and many of his paintings now appear in private collections and galleries. Edna, his wife of 57 years and he collaborated on their gallery in Taos for many years. John and his love for New Mexico with its beautiful vistas, his love of hunting, fishing and love of the outdoors were reflected in his art. He is survived by his wife Edna, daughter Christine, son John William, granddaughter Andrea and grandson Alex. Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Tuesday March 20th at 12:30 pm at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Espanola with burial to follow at 3:00 pm at The Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe with military honors. The family of John C.
